I had a thought on the way home from a function this evening.
If I were to start doing oppo reviews for random new cars, thus pre-empting the official Jalopnik review for whatever reason (mainly my desire to drive new, fancy cars) and I wanted to focus on things like Bentley Continentals or Maserati Quattroportes or the like...
How would I go about acquiring these? What's the process for getting a "press car" as it were?
Aside from throwing shame to the wind, walking into the dealer, and saying "would you be willing to loan me a Rolls Royce Ghost for a weekend as a press car for a review" how does one go about this?
Assume one doesn't work for an established car reviewer or have any connections to rich, generous, and trusting friends.

I think you have to be with some kind of press resource or wear denim

I can pull off a James May look quite easily. I think that will get me pretty far.

In my case, I either go to the dealer for a short spin or get an invite to customer rise and drive events. I've never gotten a car to take home. You have to be a very real customer to get one.

Is there like a database of customer ride and drive events somewhere? I hear about them in other places, but I never know when they go on here in Nashville. Do dealers put these on, or are they done by the regional manufacturer whatevers?

Here's a link to a good thread: http://slickdeals.net/f/210461-offic…
And the local auto show generally should have ride and drives. And register interest online. Dealers will contact you but you may be on a manufacturer's mailing list. I've also learned its very difficult to get press cars, no matter how easy Mr. Okulski makes it seem.
